Have you ever noticed that gemstones come in nearly every color of the spectrum? What’s your favorite gemstone? Do you like a specific color or do you favor the gemstone associated with your birth month? Since my birthday is in January, Garnet is my birth stone. Garnets are typically red in color, but they come in a variety of reds, depending on the tones. Some garnets can be lighter, or darker, and some mixed with other colors. One of my favorite things to do is use pieces of garnet jewelry to enhance my outfit. I found that when I wear greens and blues, the garnet stones really stand out.

When it comes to gemstones, value is measured by the color, clarity and availability. The tone and saturation are the two most important factors in determining how valuable a gemstone’s color is. When a gemstone does not have internal blemishes or inclusions, it is said to have good clarity. Gems are a natural product so it is natural that they would have some inclusions but to be of great value those inclusions should not be visible to the naked eye.
