Spotlight on May’s Birthstone: The Emerald

Emerald Green was voted the 2013 PANTONE® Color of the Year. In addition to being a stunning and vibrant color, it is also the gemstone for May birthdays. What a great match!

May is the month of radiant sunshine and brilliant blooms.  It’s a month full of life.  So it’s no wonder that the May birthstone, the emerald, is so fittingly vibrant and unique – just like all you May babies.  Your birthstone says so much about who you are, and the emerald is the perfect gemstone to embody your lively personality.   Historically regarded for its beautiful color and regal attributes (and even its slight sense of mystery), the emerald exemplifies a multifaceted person with a taste for exhilaration.

Now, in order to let the rest of the world know just how amazing your May personality is, you’re going to want to show off your birthstone in the best way possible.  Birthstones are traditionally worn as a pendant or ring – however, since you’re an exuberant person, I’m sure that tradition wouldn’t mind if you found other more exciting ways to show off your birthstone.  Fortunately for those who like variety, emeralds come in all shades of green, and they are stunning when paired with sparkling white diamonds.  If you would like to adopt the traditional birthstone display, a round pendant necklace with a center-set emerald and surrounding diamonds would add a hint of royalty to any outfit.  Or, for a double-whammy of emerald, an emerald-cut emerald cocktail ring would be a contemporary way to showcase your effervescent birthstone (and personality).  The best part about having an emerald for your birthstone is that you can wear it playful, edgy, or sophisticated –  it’s a versatile gemstone that meets the needs of so many unique styles.

Cleaning Tips: Emerald is rated “fair to good” for everyday wear with care. Avoid exposure to heat, contact with chemicals, and protect from scratches and harsh blows. To clean, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush and a solution of mild dish soap and warm water.

May is such an important month – it’s the final transition between winter and summer, and it reflects the shining personalities of all those who call it their birth month.  So do your birthstone justice, and become a beacon of the new life and happiness that May symbolizes – and wear your emeralds proudly.
