Last year, summer jewelry tended to showcase dramatic pieces – bold and elephantine styles that were chunky if not striking. Summer of 2012 however makes more of a green statement with the emphasis placed on sustainability. So, while bold and chunky pieces are still favored, the jewelry presented this year highlights natural stones or recycled materials. Styles range from the exotic to the traditional with some pieces combining a retro look with modernized flair. Vibrant colors, larger-than-life gemstones, and diamonds and zirconium are all on-trend for summer accessory wear.
In particular, choker necklaces are favored for summer this year with pieces made of such beads as natural pink pearls or onyx complementing V-necks, strapless tops, or halters. You can also opt for choker styles made of resin materials underscoring vintage, bohemian, Chinese, or multi-pendant designs. If accessorizing for a fancier event, look for diamond choker necklaces
Another Popular Look
Making a comeback this summer season, the cross necklace, again, is a well-favored piece of jewelry. In keeping with the theme of sustainability and natural detailing, you’ll find a variety of looks. For example, coral and crystal pendants are featured along with wire pendants with leather necklaces – all reflecting the popular cross styling and design.
Are you Feeling Blue?
Blue is highly featured in summer jewelry as well. So, take advantage of jewelry styles that showcase stones in such blue hues as turquoise, aqua or navy. Ovals combined with faceted beads are particularly popular this season too.
Besides crosses, the summer season will feature many floral jewelry pieces as well. Whether the jewelry is a brooch, bracelet, earrings, or necklace, again, summer designs will be made from a number of recycled or natural materials. Therefore, flower-inspired fashions will make use of pearls, Swarovski crystals, or bluish or purple gemstones such as amethyst on gunmetal. In addition, simple floral creations in 14K gold or sterling silver will be highlighted among the offerings too.
Accessorizing is not limited to earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings! Jewelry for the hair is also one more look that is in vogue this summer, making tiaras, barrettes, hair pins, and floral headbands must-have items this year. Many celebrities tried this trend on the red carpet and it looks stunning.
An Interesting Accent
Along with diamond and crystal accents in the hair, many designs this year will incorporate feathers. This is especially true for bridal hairpieces. Just take a look at Etsy or all of the wedding blogs out there and you’ll see every variation of this beautiful hair accessory. Opt for color feathers or gemstones for a non-wedding look.
