Tip for Cleaning Jewelry

Have a Question about Jewelry Care?

I was recently asked for tips on how to clean fine jewelry. The answer depends on the type of jewelry (metal type and gemstone) and how often you wear it. If it is a piece of gold jewelry, you can use a soft toothbrush and some soapy water making sure you get into all of the crevices of the jewelry item. Afterward, rinse it in warm water until you can see clear water. Use a lint free, soft cloth to gently dry the piece. You should probably do this once a month, especially if you wear it a lot.

For platinum jewelry, you will do the same technique. The only difference is you will want to let it soak a little longer than you would with gold jewelry. If after washing your jewelry looks dull or scratched, consider taking it to your local jeweler and have them polish and restore the piece. With platinum jewelry, you can see scratches and dullness, so if you are wearing it every day, I would suggest cleaning it every few weeks.

Of course as with all of your fine jewelry, make sure you store it well. Keep each piece separate so they do not scratch each other.
