Big Wedding vs. Eloping

Most couples who elope do so because that they want to save money. The costs of having a complete wedding and honeymoon can be several thousands of dollars, so the idea of doing it privately, either in a courthouse or other private location has its appeal. You save on the ceremony and reception fees, wedding jewelry, catering costs and flowers. It also saves a lot of time needed to plan all the wedding details. Some people think it is romantic to run off to city hall to get married or Las Vegas for a themed wedding.

Recently, two of my close friends decided to elope, planning a larger celebration sometime next year. It made me think about the amount of couples who choose to go this route. Some couples have a public ceremony later on where they renew their vows in front of friends and family members. If spontaneously having a quickie wedding sounds interesting to you, check out these celebrities who sealed their relationships with an elopement:

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds.
